SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 installation issues

Today I tried to update SQL Server 2005 with the brand new service pack on some demo VPC. However I faced serious troubles. After downloading the file from MSDN I started the installation.
But unfortunately the installation package wasn't able to update the database engine nor the analysis services. No error messages really - just "An exception occourred", hmmm I think I figured that one out...
Actually I faced the same troubles on the beta of the service pack, however I beared in mind, that it was a beta.. So I waited for the final version. Same behavior.

Well I googled a bit and found a Knowledge Base article concerning updating to service pack 1. However this article fortunately apply to service pack 2, too.
You find the link here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925976

It's about removing some registry entries containing SIDs which existed at first install time, but which in the meantime have been deleted..
